Restoration

The Maritime Classic Boat Museums most expansive program is the preservation and restoration of antique boats. The Museum has restored five excellent examples of 1930s mahogany recreational boats and stores more than a dozen valuable antique boats to be restored. MCBM maintains a large restoration facility and teaches visitors who have an interest.

MCBM envisions the restoration program to expand to the point of becoming a service to the maritime museum field and to serve the educational needs of students interested in maritime fields of study. A new boat restoration building, adjacent to the new exhibition building planned for the Indian RiverSide Park location, will contain a boat building and restoration shop, exhibition space for finished boats, antique engine repair shop, and boat model building and conservation shop. All the shops will be structured to also teach stewardship, preservation, and conservation of artifacts.

When complete, the Maritime Classic Boat Museum will have three indoor classrooms, two studios for boat model craftsmen to demonstrate and teach, and two teaching workshops for collaborative boat building, and antique and classic boat engine restoration. The latter spaces will allow hands-on learning with resident boat wrights and antique engine mechanics. The museum will offer summer camps, after-school programs, and workshops in partnership with the Childrens Museum and the U. S. Sailing Center. There will be also ample space for adult classes and workshops.

Mission

The Maritime and Classic Boat Museum was established in 1993 as a non-profit community organization and opened its doors to the public in 1995. It is devoted to the collection, preservation, restoration and interpretation of the maritime and boating history on the Treasure Coast.
