Where History, Culture and Industry Converge

The Maritime and Classic Boat Museum is an active, not a static, museum. This is best exemplified by the ongoing boat restoration efforts that have been a part of the Museum since its founding. Individuals passionate about the history and structural integrity of classic boats have spent untold volunteer hours sanding, scraping, and crafting pieces for classic boats in a labor of love.

The next phase in the development of the Maritime and Classic Boat Museum is the development of the Restoration Workshop.

Within the Workshop building, skilled restorers will have space for boat restoration, engine conservation and repair, and model building. Visitors will be able to interact with the boat restorers, view progress from an observation deck, and discuss techniques with staff and volunteers.

The 9,510 square foot, two-storey structure will have secure space for storing tools and materials, as well as the boats and engines that are undergoing restoration. There will be a classroom for those who want to learn more about the craft of restoration or the history of the items being restored.

Moreover, the Restoration Workshop will be the center of an effort to teach the trade of boat building and restoration to a younger generation. A collaboration has already been developed with Project LIFT to bring young at-risk students to the Workshop for intense instruction from accomplished craftsmen on the skills they need to be productive workers in the maritime industry of the Treasure Coast. Furthering the concept of boats and boating as one of the largest parts of the local economic engine, the Maritime and Classic Boat Museum will be a partner with the Marine Industries members in preparing young people for careers on the Treasure Coast.
