Internships at the Maritime & Classic Boat Museum

The Maritime & Classic Boat Museum offers both paid and practicum internships for college students.

These are usually in the Curatorial, Education and Marketing Departments. Participating students will have strong research and hands on task components to their activities which can lead to meaningful careers in museums, parks and other cultural institutions. Students will find that their experiences at the museum will add to their skill levels and broaden their knowledge of the cultural and business workplace.

Students majoring in history, graphics, marketing, social sciences, and science and technology fields are encouraged to apply.

Practicum

These are collaborations with the museum and student where mutual goals are set which satisfy academic objectives as well as museum needs. For instance: a graphics design class might design and produce the Gallery Handouts or newsletter; a marketing student or class might assist with visitor and market surveys or a history student or class might research an exhibition thesis and write the research as content for museum publications. These are usually semester – long commitments and satisfactory completion is part of the grade for the class. These are unpaid positions.

Paid

Hours are set based on the student’s schedule; these are part time temporary positions at the museum. Students are scheduled 10-20 hours per week. The museum is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Mission

The Maritime and Classic Boat Museum was established in 1993 as a non-profit community organization and opened its doors to the public in 1995. It is devoted to the collection, preservation, restoration and interpretation of the maritime and boating history on the Treasure Coast.
